Dells Camping Trip

- We
left Tracy’s house at about
5:40 pm after Tricia brought home
some Taco Bell. The car was packed up and we were on the road. We took my
dad’s Cadillac because it had more storage space and a TV. Brian and
I sat in back and Tricia Drove. We watched True Lies on VHS then played
my gamecube which I had set up as well. The traffic was nasty so it took a
long time to get there. Over three hours. I wanted to get there early so we
would still have some light. Upon paying and pulling up to our campsite, Tracy or Tricia notice
that we have no picnic table and that other people are parked in our spot.
They have pretty much monopolized the whole area. So After some fuss, I decide
to go see if there is another spot we can get. Off to the ranger station. They
didn’t want to give us another spot, but finally they told us we could check
out 2 other spots. One was next to the highway, and was loud, the other was
better and had a table and fire pit, so we took that one. Its now dark so we
set up the tent in the dark. It went really well with Brian’s help and it was
up in about 10 minutes. We set up the chairs and made some smores. Me and
Brian had a few beers. Tracy and Tricia had to run 14 miles the next morning
so they didn’t drink anything and we went to bed pretty early. Maybe
11:00ish. We all slept pretty well.
The new tent we had bought worked really well.

It was not this light when we arrived.
This photo is from the next day.
The photo below is shortly after the
tent was set up.

- Woke
up around 6:30 am. I went with Brian
in the car and mapped out how far the girls had to run so that they could get
their 14 miles in. While we did this they got dressed and ready to run. Once
the girls got going me and Brian cooked breakfast. This consisted of eggs,
bacon, corned beef hash and some coffee. It was really good. Only problem is
that the frying pans I bought were so thin that things would burn easily. The
soup pan was defective and the bottom came off in the eggs and had to be
thrown away. Needless to say I am going to buy better pans for my next trip.
After the girls run, we cooked them breakfast and they took a nap. Brian and
I just relaxed and read our books. I am reading Straight Man by Richard
Russo and Brian is reading a book on Greek Mythology. We Also Played UNO and
Yatzee and then Brian and I took a walk to the River down the big hill and I
took some photos.

- After
relaxing longer around the campsite, playing some more games and stuff, we
went for a drive into down town Dells and walked around. It was very busy and
the traffic was bad. Most of the shops just sell junk. After this we went to
MooseJaw Piiza and Brewing
Company. This is one of me
and Tracy’s favorite places to
eat. They have awesome pizza. We all did the “10 Pointer” beer sampler. You
sample a small glass of 10 beers. Its a lot of beer and none of us finished
it. We were pretty buzzed up by round 7 and didn’t want to just go back to the
camp and pass out. We ate Nachos for an appetizer and Pizza for dinner.
Tracy, Brian and I had a large sausage, black olive and green pepper,
Tricia had her own individual cheese pizza. She doesn’t like Green peppers or
sausage that much on her pizza. We then headed back to the camp and bought
some beer and I got a glowstick for
tracy. We relaxed around the fire,
ate more smores, drank and played with the glowstick.

Me ready to rock

By
spinning the glow stick you can make it look totally sweet.

- The
girls eventually went to bed, maybe around midnight. Brian and I sat around a little longer and
decided to go to bed and leave the marshmallows, buns and other food stuff
laying out. In the middle of the night
Tracy woke me up to about 4 or 5
little raccoons having a feast. We opened the tent and watched them for a
while. They were growling at each other and making odd noises on and off. The
rest of the night was uneventful.

- Woke
up pretty early. Tracy and I were the first out of the tent. We walked
down to the bathroom and notice the raccoons did some damage to some other
peoples candy supply. Once back at the camp I made some coffee and
Tracy started on breakfast. The
damn pans made cooking hard again, the pancakes burned a bit but the bacon
came out fine. While Tricia and I were packing up sleeping bags and
stuff, Tracy was calling us to
come to get eggs. She dropped them because supposedly our not coming caused
them to pop out of the skillet. Tricia and I find that hard to believe.
We packed up the tent and all the chairs and cooler and we were ready to hit
the road again. On the way home we stopped at Culvers and I had a butter
burger as did Tracy and Tricia. Brian wasn’t hungry so he didn’t eat. Tricia
did most of the driving on the trip which was nice. On the way home I washed
my dads car for him so it wouldn’t be a mess when I got it home to
him.
Final Words
- We
had a great time. The cooking situation will improve greatly once I get some
better pots and pans. I think I will also buy an air mattress to make the
ground a little softer. We were sleeping on some sleeping mats and they make a
HUGE difference.
